What purpose then this life now spent, sometimes in darkness deep as pitch devoid of reason or ordered lines to speak, caste roughly into sticky webs of doubt, and left to struggle without hope to gain, Yet somewhere in a better place exists, a lilting phrase, a smile most dear, sweet flowers strewn in scented vase, a sunbeam filtered through clear glass, a love so dear it bursts the soul. Which world then will the life embrace, or is the choice not there to take, a random thing mindlessly disposed, to chose fate blindly in cold indifference, concerned not for the fragile flesh. Is this then the penance for mortal sins, dimmed with age in long eons past or, just a span to live then die quietly, absorbed into the eternal soundless void, a celestial hoax, a cruel comedic play. Do you not wonder then which life you live, or is it all of these in portions doled, a potpourri to feast or starve in turn, a breathless ride at breakneck speed, to somewhere we cannot know in this weak flesh. Cursed are we with minds that yearn to know not as simple creatures that live day to day, unmindful of the answers sought by thinking souls, content to live, to be, to taste life in innocence, then fade away without a care from this mystery. This fear we feel, and hide secretly from light, is the child of ignorance and doubt; it dogs the mind in endless waves of monotony, yet strenghtens hope and builds resolve, that this life is indeed a worthwhile trek in time. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

Beautiful! A delightful journey into the meaning of life whispered to us in eloquent prose... I'll definitely be tuning in to more of your stuff! *smile* |

This is beautiful poetry. Too intense to absorb at one sitting. I'm printing it now to peruse more leisurly over my cup of coffee. Great work. Joyce |

Dear Pegasus 111, I am back after reading and re-reading your poem. This poem should not be on these pages for a few days and then fade away into that other world. It is so well done. Every line shines as though it was inspired by a poet of an earlier time. I shall keep it to read again and again. Love, Joyce |

Peg; you are a seeker, a philosopher, and a grand poet! You are right about life being a potpourri...That is why it is so important to "Carpe Diem"...better still the moment is to be cherished and lived to the fullest! I sometimes envy those creatures without a frontal lobe. No ethics to deal with just the now just survival on its own ter Orwell maybe right, ignorance is bliss What good is knowledge when paradise is lost You ask very good questions, I don't have the answeres but I am glad the our quest bumped into each other. cya around |

pegasus111, this is both deep and yet flowing over the top. I love how your mind works the words into a picture for the mind. Lovely, ME |

Your mind was in overdrive with this one! Lots here. A lot to contemplate, indeed. Kathleen--(Kay) |
