There was something odd about the cat.
I watched her nap upon doormat
I swear I saw her smiling
In the sun.

" What? You've never seen a cat before?"
Came a scratchy lady's voice by door
A voice rung like a bell,
though aged by time.

‘ Who's there? ‘ I asked the voice so new
" It's me! " said voice, and true
my eyes, my ears did guide
to yonder cat.

‘ You can talk? ‘ I asked with half belief.
(( some credit, for I live with a bigfoot Chief ))
" Of course, you silly boyo!
Just like you!"

‘ So why didn't you just speak before?'
" I felt like purring, nothing more,
but I am a woman and inclined
to change my mind."

‘ Mm Hmm, I see, I gathered that.'
Then I lay down by tabby cat
And for the next few hours
We did speak.

It seems that Snowpaw's very old.
Born in land both lost and cold,
And an ancient bit of magic
Lives inside.

She searches for a red, yarn, ball.
Not like another one at all.
Her love, he is, now changed
By ancient charm.

‘ What will you do, when you find him?'
" Make a sweater! " She said and grinned.
" Then I'll wear him close,
wherever that I go."

I laughed at my new furry friend.
Her stories, true, will never end,
And on I talked with her
Into the night.

" The question shouldn't be...'Why are we here?' but rather 'ARE we here? "
