In days gone by I was an innocent blissfully ignorant of so many things In days gone by I cried so frivolously with a heart broken by small stings If days gone by were treasures I could recreate and live again Would my days gone by be as wasted by a mind too young to understand That days to come would be filled with sadness much deeper and much harder to comprehend In days gone by I was a child never knowing my happiness would end Your beautiful words & creativity allow me to connect with the same in myself. |

But blissful ignorance is part of being young, where it belongs, and in our memories. Could you write about that bliss? "As soon as the generals and the politicos can predict the motions of your mind, lose it." Wendell Berry |

Childhood is not necessarily a happy time for some. We learn a lot from our experiences however. Betty Lou Hebert |

Moon Dust~ Of course, I would too And that's probably not a bad thing because it makes us who we are today. Who would we be if we hadn't made those mistakes? Krawdad~ You are right. I was fortunate to have that blissful ignorance at all. Many children face hard realities much too soon in life. This wasn't really a poem from my perspective, to be honest...it was just something that came out after a disturbing experience. Perhaps someday I will write about that bliss with fondness. We shall see! Thank you for your honesty Trillium~ Yes, and if we don't, well we get another chance next time around! Your beautiful words & creativity allow me to connect with the same in myself. |

Ah, you are so right that wisdom can come and chase away the childhood days, yet we have a choice, to not let go of our childlike wonder, no matter what! A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |
