"it ain't vanilla!"
screams the green-eyed monster
who busily cranks the slot machine
of life

and the pink flamingoes
who once wore platform shoes
down in the everglades
are buried back-knee deep
in the sargasso sea of our front yard
now frozen ornaments
in time

at high noon
as we wait for the
neon meteor showers

to streak the close sky

you/I spit together
in rhyme
sunflower seeds
(vying for the first hole-in-one)
into dew-matted bunny slippers
with the worn-out
felt soles

can it be? that it is all just
a crap-shot of dice

Joyce, I owe it all to a list of words (a writing exercise) it was such fun that I ended up do three poems off of it.

ellie, I was really pondering this after I wrote it, that is the great joy of writing, starting at point A and wondering how in the heck you got to Point X...lol

Solstice Son, yeah it pleases me too, still for a reason I can't name, but I surely do love my sunflower seed spitting image... thanks for your comment.
