Tradition of the Tree

We tramped along a snowy road.
The trees released their heavy load
In showers thudding to the ground,
Creating spume for yards around.
The opalescent sky foretold
A lull within this span of cold
And soon a pale and distant sun
Shed feeble light on everyone.
It was enough to cheer our day
And speed our feet upon their way,
to find a Christmas tree so grand.
Then take it home to fill the stand
And when we set it up inside,
The child within us couldn't hide
Grins of great appreciation.
Advent of the celebration
That Christmas brings to us each year,
With old traditions we hold dear.

Brought home some long ago and some not so long ago memeories of getting the xmas tree. I remember, when I was young, we would buy them from a neighborhood tree lot, that would spring upon the street corners after Thanksgiving. Seems like winter's were much colder then?

Lady: Thanks for reading the poem and commenting. For years we have gone out into the woods...........we live in the country..............and found our trees, but my husband is not in the best of health now, so we go to a corner lot in town. We just got our trees today. I'm anxious to get them up!
