A Morning in October It's a wild and windy morning And the air is full of sighs And the mist is drifting, drifting, Where the reedy water lies. I can hear a raven calling As he rides upon the breeze And the leaves are falling, falling, From the lonely autumn trees. It's a wild and windy morning And my heart is sad to hear There's the sound of wild geese calling From the higher atmosphere. Now the winter's nearly with us When the days are cold and gray And the snow is blowing, blowing, So I've put my dreams away! I'm not surprised that you have so many poems published. You are quite talented, Betty! This is beautifully done! |

Lizzie Vivian: I am not sad, although I do sometimes write about sad things. However, I'll take that hug you offered! Thanks. Betty Lou Hebert |

Denise: Thanks for your nice comments! I started publishing in the small press magazines about 17 years ago. By the time I got a computer........a couple of years ago........I had hundreds of poems already published. I still submit to a lot of them. Betty Lou Hebert |

I really like this as I do all of your poems, the last line however I would tend not to agree with (not a critique) just my opinion.. I say never put your dreams away.. just make "adaptations". or put them on hold for a little while, which is what you probally meant anyway. I am a optimist most of the time, as you probally know already. |

Songbird: Thanks for all your comments and I can see what you mean about the last line. I should have conveyed that I was putting my dreams away for the winter. I didn't realize that this poem would come across to others as being so sad. I guess when you can't tell what frame of mind the poet is in, you see things the person who wrote it doesn't. I am an optimistic person also and I was not feeling sad when I wrote this. Betty Lou Hebert |
