The Winter Road Our country road looks lonlier When leaves begin to fall And from the sky I often hear A southbound gander's call. A golden shower drifts below, Borne by an impish breeze, That's busy stripping finery From over-hanging trees. The colors flame against a sky Of pure, pellucid blue. The bracken, now a burnished bronze, Wears drops of crystal dew And over all there is a sense The land prepares to sleep. Now very soon, the snow will throw A blanket, cold and deep Across the countryside I know. Not many come here then, But I see tracks are left behind, By animals and men And so the winter road reveals A history every day, Of everyone who left their print, When passing by this way. You really know how to write beautiful poetry, I think this ranks right up there with Robert Frost, one of my favorite poets. |
