Island Spell

Out in the stream, an island lies.
Above it there are dragonflies,
Like winged jewels that dart and flit.
I like to wade across and sit
Where trees cast shade and breezes blow.
There, forget-me-nots can grow
To spread a blue tide on the shore.
Every year I see there's more.
A charming flower, there's no doubt,
That grows profusely all about.
But there are other pleasing sights.
An eagle, soaring to great heights,
Who circles in the flawless blue.
Perhaps he wonders what I do,
Just sitting in the marshy grass,
Letting the summer hours pass,
With idle hands and mind as well,
Captured by the island's spell!

this is lovely Betty.  I haven't seen a dragon fly for a long time and few prety butterflies.  I am afraid there are too many pesticides used on the crops.  Love, Joyce

Betty Lou,

I really enjoyed the expressed imagery of your poem and I think what appealed to me most was the simple idea of just remaining idle and viewing the beauty of the island.

As a side note, unlike Joyce, we do have dragonflies here but I think that possibly they are threatened more by my cat than they are by the pesticides. Big Smiles. She loves to drag them into our house.

God bless.

-Bob

Thanks Joyce:  I suppose we have so many dragonflies because of the creeks here. I enjoy seeing them. Sorry you don't and you are probably right about the pesticides.

Dear Betty Lou

You have cast a spell of your own with your versing!  I'm always mesmerised by your wonderful poetry!

As Joyce, our butterflies, dragonflies and grasshoppers are scarce because of pesticide use.  I pray that Bob's cat got to that dragonfly before the pesticide did.  Birds over here (Australia)are getting ill and dying because the lawns are sprayed with pesticide to get rid of lawn grubs.  The 'food chain' always suffers because of man's ignorance etc!

Love Verbena xo

Dear Verbena:

Thanks for reading!  We don't have that problem around here, as no one that I know of uses pesticides!  Thank goodness.

Love
Betty Lou
