What Lies Between Between the ground, where grasses grow And sky above, I've come to know The countryside and places there Of which most people aren't aware. Up in the hills on highest peaks, Are rocky crags. An eagle seeks To find a ledge and build a nest And if it faces to the west, The sky at sunset is divine And tints the clouds with gold and wine! If facing east, the morning light Strikes first upon this lonely height And gradually reveals the land That lies below, where forests grand Stretch miles away and there reside The animals whose game trails guide To where the lushest meadows grow And where the creeks and rivers flow. To flowered fields and boggy ground Where Lady's Slippers can be found. Beside the lake, the sandy shore Will welcome bare feet that explore And water beckons teasingly. These spots mean a lot to me And though I love the sky so blue, Also enjoy green grasses too, What lies between enriches me With beauty, in each scene I see! Betty Lou, I really enjoyed all the 'of which most people aren't aware' nature that you described in your poem and how you take us to the most remote places (i.e. the top of a mountain where an eagle nests, animal trails that lead to a most lush meadow, etc. etc.) and then in the middle of all this wonderful wonderful obscurity what is found???? Lady's Slippers!!!! Big Smiles. You are certainly blessed to fellowship with such wonderous nature, my poetess friend, and especially so in your bed clothes. I really enjoyed the imagery of your poem. God bless. -Bob |

Dear Joyce: I don't do much exploring of this type anymore, but I used to and remember it well enough to write about it. Thanks. Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Dear Betty Lou You have your own 'National Geographic' going on within your poetry! Just as good as the 'Discovery Channel' too! You take me to places where I've never been! Thank you! Love Verbena xo |
