Sprucing Up "Susie Dear," I gently scolded, "Now you know there's going to be Some visitors tomorrow And we'll offer them some tea. Please be on your best of manners. Let me show them in with pride. Please don't wander to the parlor To shake off your dusty hide. Yes, I know you share this dwelling, It's your home as well as mine, But there are some silly persons Who would haughtily decline If you dared to sit there boldly For your share of crepes and tea, As is very customary When it's only you and me. Now I don't mean to offend you. I'll ignore that doleful stare, But I would be so embarrassed If they were to find a hair On their plate or in their teacup As I offer them some tea, So please stay on your cushion. Will you not do that for me?" Joyce 6/14/06 |

Joyce, Smiles. You do know the expression I'm sure that you can't teach an old dog a new trick. In our house, though, we have cats and one of them has gotten quite used to getting on top of the dining table. I suppose this phrase works for cats as well???? Anyway, your poem did catch me by surprise at the end. -Bob |
