Silent Lips In aging There is a certain solace In watching the sand of time Trickle through the hourglass …of our lives. How acute the knowledge is That every minute grain Is a precious commodity, Not to be wasted. When we were very small Parents anxiously Hovered over us, For fear we would get lost. And get lost we did As our hands slipped away From those we were holding. As we grew We crossed illicit borders In an attempt to escape The boundaries Of our limitations. We were free (Or so we thought). We ran wild with like packs, And taunted our guardians For their worrying. Eventually we settled Many of us… To become parents Hovering anxiously For fear our children Would become lost. In aging There is a certain solace In seeing one’s grown children Hovering… Over their children For fear they will get lost. The words ‘I told you so’ Lay just so gently On silent lips. |
