The Egg and Who?

I live in country, so I know,
Every day I need to go
Out to the mailbox, where I'll find,
Mail the postman leaves behind.
One day I got a strange surprise.
There before my startled eyes,
A hen's egg sat!A perfect sphere.
I wondered who had left it here?

And did they giggle gleefully
To think how this would puzzle me?
I guess I'll probably never know
Who played this joke on me and so
I'll treat it like a little gift
And it will give my dog a lift,
When I prepare it for his lunch.
Whoever left it, thanks a bunch!!

Dear Joyce:  It wasn't a hen unless she could open the door of the mailbox!

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Hi Karen:  The dog did indeed enjoy his lunch. An egg is not something he gets often! Still no clue as to left it, but I now know who has chickens out here!!  I must not jump to conclusions however!
