The Irish In Me I have a bit of Irish in me From Grandma Mary Holloway, My German part is quite subdued On this, my grandma's holiday. The Scotch and English part of Mom Combined with Irish from her ma Make up the whole of half of me. The rest is German from my pa. A boiled potato on her plate Was part of Grandma's daily fare But adding cabbage and corned beef Made it a feast beyond compare. On this grand day of every year, I think about my family tree And wear the green to show my pride In the bit of Irish part of me. Joyce 3/17/06 |

Dear Joyce: I enjoyed your poem! I did wear green today in honor of my Irish ancestors, which make up half of me. My dad was French. there was a parade in town today, but the weather was so miserable, we didn't go! On top of that we had spaghetti for dinner!! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Joyce~ 'A boiled potato on her plate Was part of Grandma's daily fare But adding cabbage and corned beef Made it a feast beyond compare.' OH MY ! I also LOVE those one-pot suppers~ One of my favorite dishes on my 1/4 Irish heritage~ LOL ... this St. Patty's Day/Night, Bill had a band booking ... as the nightclub is notoriously COLD in temperature ... I chose to wear black slacks and a pink long-sleeved blouse for warmth~ The girlfriend of our other guitarist began to chide me for not having on the GREEN~ I grinned ... pulled my blouse off the shoulder to show her that INDEED, I had worn the GREEN of a bra !!! She laughed right out loud and said, "Guess that's a different take on Erin Go Bra ! We laughed and laughed and laughed~ LOVED your poem dear lady~ And may the luck o' the Irish keep you in good stead all the year~ *Huglets* ~*Erin-Go-Bra*~ (at least it wasn't ~*Erin-Go-BraLESS*~) ~*The sound of a kiss is not as strong as that of a cannon, but it's echo endures much longer*~ |

Thanks everyone. I had my boiled potatoes and corned beef and cabbage on St. Pat's day, courtesy of my granddaughter's boyfriend. He invited her parents and grandma over to his house for the best corned beef I have ever had. He boiled little potato fingerlings and carrots with the cabbage. Ummm! Love, Joyce |

being proud of one's heritage is admirable.. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |
