Wolves At dark the wolves began to sing And when I went outside to bring Another load of wood, I saw, A trail left by a stealthy paw. I hurried back and slammed the door And only then felt safe once more. But later, peering through the pane, I saw that they were back again. Across the field with nose to tail, They loped and vanished with a hail Of barks and yips to let me know They tracked some quarry through the snow. With dawn, their voices died away. I fell asleep and dreamed that they Were circling my lonely bed. Their breath was hot, their eyes were red. Then I awoke to scoff and say: "Why do I fear them anyway? Although they frighten me at night, I rather like them in daylight!" [This message has been edited by Trillium (edited 10-18-2001).] |

Do you really live with wolves near by? We have some coyotes but no wolves. Joyce |

Dear Joyce: This is a memory of my younger days when my family lived in Northern Alberta. We definitely did have lots of wolves around us there. One does not forget them! Betty Lou Hebert |

Willow White Feather: Thank you! The picture is lovely. I always have liked wolves in the midst of holding them in awe and being a bit scared of them. I remember walking through the woods when I was about five years old with wolves running in the trees on both sides of me. I was frightened but I had a feeling they weren't going to hurt me and they didn't! Betty Lou Hebert |
