Trapped with in the hollow walls
sits a lost and cold little girl
she's been abandoned in this place
and no one remembers where she's gone
on each wall there is written in chalk
the amount of time she's been here
1,095 tallies mark the walls
one for everyday that has been spent alone
no porole for her will be lent
only 547 tallies left to serve.
no one sees her not even a guard
the sound of her voice has become
but a distant dream
human contact has become an illsion
life wasn't supposed to end up this way
she'd had so many plans
and things that will never be completed
so for now she will just continue as she is
a silent prisoner in her silent pen.

Hi Yeah, a lonely one this one..
I was interested; do the numbers have any significance? Are they just numbers?

Dear SP,

I like your poetry
It is very modern yet so poetic, wish I could do that too!

this is very sad and thought provoking.  Is this an abused child?  An autistic child?
A senile old lady trapped in her childhood memories?  Could be many reasons for her isolation.  Joyce

This is actually about a high school student. The tally marks represent the days spent and the days that are left to go. Thanks for the compliments on my style. Most people don't like when I write in the story form but I feel that it makes certain poems come alive. Thank you all.
