This is the Final part of a long poem called Legend Of the Chrystal Flame The first two parts need to be read before this one Or it will not really make sense although I tried to make each part readable in its own right Roginal the Pirate Queen As silently as death itself, ship slipped into view Darker greys and other shades, colours quite subdued At night or in the dusk and dawn it would be unseen Nightmare ship, the provenance, of the Pirate Queen I was there to meet her, this terror of the sea Roginal the Pirate Queen, a name of infamy So many tried to capture her, reward 100 crowns Hunters became prey as another ship went down Now I stood before her, as envoy to the King Amused the glance that told me; I did not mean a thing Look into a panther’s cold and ruthless stare Roginals were the same with added hatred there A panther lounges insolent and she did the same Single look, I knew for sure, she deserved her name Had a special loathing for all members of the Fleet That’s why I, a soldier, was sent with her to meet She had a strange resemblance to someone in my mind Memory flitted through, then was left behind Helen had a face the launched a thousand ships This was a nicer smile, but only on the lips Oh those eyes; hypnotic eyes; so much hate in them So much power, no wonder she could rule a world of men “You travelled hard to find me, perhaps to greet your death Either way it happens, it happens none the less Forget your rights you soldier, you envoy of the King You are in a place he craves, but here I am the Queen Must be something that he wants but why come to me He can rule the land; I will always rule the sea” “Sea is my companion; it is my only friend One day, when I’m ready, it will be my end Land holds bitter memories; sea buries its dead I’ll tell you about me, and the life that I have led Then you make your decision, ask me what you will But when I refuse, accept that bitter pill” “You did not know my father; really nor did I Was not blood who raised me, nor ever waved goodbye He’s been dead so many years; since I was a child Perhaps that is the reason; I am a little wild I am a survivor, been one since my birth Parents are long gone, buried in the earth Was another man who cared; took me to his home Was the only real man, I have ever known” “For six long years he fought a war and never saw defeat Said only fools are heroes, yet stayed to fight a fleet On the day he died, so died a part of me I was still so young; just about fourteen We were heading for some island, far across the sea Storm came up, boat went down, survivors only me” “Pirate ship my saviour; if you can called it saved People just like you and me, only more depraved You’ve never been a plaything; tossed from man to man Since that did not break me; I know nothing can They told me of the battle and how my carer died Was the last time in my life that any saw me cry I refused to be a harlot, just shared among the crew Somehow intuition, told me what to do Successful pirate captain’s, a cruel and vicious man Strove to be his woman, that was my simple plan To reach that point I did things I’ll never do again Nasty introduction, into the world of men I see you have emotions; such a silly trait Speak your masters words, before it is too late” Who was I to talk now; to the Pirate Queen Been a soldier all my life yet hadn’t seen a thing But one thing eluded me, so got me to speak Was the famous battle of one boat against a fleet Seven ships of line, destroyed through desperation Heart blow to the conquest dreams of my sovereign’s nation The lone boat had escaped; was never seen again Captain of that boat, now a vanished legend Was this something I could use; did I dare use this thing She extended me her hand, that’s when I saw the ring Simple ring of gold and red, graven ruby there Star within that ruby filled my heart with fear Was a Ring of Power, revered throughout my land Here it was quite comfortable upon a pirate’s hand “Roginal is not your name, but I know who you are First it was your face, and then I saw the star Your mother was the Priestess, disappeared in flight She had become a mother so fled into the night Neighbours said they had the Ring; that’s why we went to war All the while it’s on a hand, royalty never saw” “Your father lives; a haunted man; seeking endlessly Never knew the missing prize, rules this surly sea Mother’s bones are in a tomb; daughters never found Every night silent tears; as the sun goes down Later I will tell you of the sinking of the fleet Of the boat that sailed away; into mystery You may be Queen of Pirates, This you may remain But you have so much more, if you wish to claim” “Look around you silly man; tell me what you see I have everything I want; including infamy No man will ever rule me; here I rule my world You do not see before you some silly little girl This rumour of my carer; of this you will speak more If it is all lies; your reception will be poor My carer called me Miracle shortened to Myrel For one more moment with him, I would sail through hell He may have been a Fool; but he truly was a man Tell your story carefully then I’ll make my plans” My future now uncertain; dangles o’er a knife Story told; signal made; ship explodes with life Been a soldiers many years; I know men of War Pirates are the deadliest that I ever saw Way the ship came to life, straining to be free Way she ruled her Empire, with cool efficiency Wind singing through the rigging; creaking under strain Motion to the helmsman and more speed is gained Straight into the Sea of Storms, where none has e’er returned She alone, has no fear, of what she has learned Ring of Power now agitated, sigils are ablaze Look of consternation flashes cross her face She’d always had the answers if she knew where to look Secrets of the Ring of Power are not in any book Driving on remorselessly through howling wind and rain Crew looks on in disbelief but does not complain Screaming at her ship, to do her bidding well She has said she’ll do it; so we sail through Hell Hurricane means nothing as we drive into its heart Every moment thinking that the ship will fall apart She alone is fearless; does not give a damn Fights the God of Storms as if it were a man You may call her foolish, may call her deranged But she got us through; that simple fact remains You never saw her standing, steadfast on the bow While the rest of us, back amidships cowered Unheralded we broke its hold, God of Storms subsides Before our weary gaze, an unknown island lies She took a long boat to the shore; was gone for quite a while Looked tired when she returned but her eyes now smiled “Soldier; there’s a simple task, I want you to do In your hands now rests, real safety for my crew I need you to return; to stand before the King Say Roginal and Babe are dead, you have found the Ring All my plunders yours; to share among the men Though they are a ragged lot; no more piracy for them They have the wealth of Kingdoms, so they can survive It is now your task, to give them all new lives Paint the ship; change her; like a trader’s barque Roginal is dead; let none see her mark” It took nearly two years, until this was completed Arguments aplenty, yet never was defeated Finally there came a day, when I was set free That day I took a boat, then headed out to sea God of Storms was most benign, sailed without a care Morning that my food ran out, Island now appeared On an empty beach stood a women strong and proud Old man sitting next to her began to laugh out loud It was in that instant I knew what I had done This soldier’s war was over; I had found my home . . . This was great fun to write Hope none of you were too bored .. . Live It |
