The Patio Bear At 3;00 a.m. last Wednesday morn, A black bear, feeling so forlorn, Because no tasty food he'd found, Came in our yard, to look around! The scent of pet food in the air, Drew him to our back yard, where, A window screen just made him scoff! He took his claws and tore it off! Inside, he had that food in sight. He knocked a few things left and right And settled in to munch away. He didn't have too long to stay! The noises on our patio Aroused us so we'd quickly go To see what lay beyond the drape. It was this wild and hairy shape! He was alarmed to see us too And didn't know quite what to do. Up on the table, with one bound, Another open window found, He dived right through the screen and we Closed all those windows, hurriedly! He came across a creek, we knew, Because of water, mud and goo, He left behind, for me to clean, Every place that he had been! We left those windows closed all right, But he came back on Thursday night. Tore off a screen, was foiled again, So left big paw prints on each pane! Betty Lou Hebert |

Dear Joyce: We've lived here for 23 years and this is the closest encounter with a bear, in this area. Of course, we are less than a mile from a national forest and live in timber, so it's hard to tell where private land begins...........especially to a hungry bear! Love Betty Lou |

MiCHeLle: This was all too true. He was a big messy beast and I was really glad there was a glass door between us, although I suppose if he'd really wanted to, he might have been able to push it in! He wasn't full grown. We figured about 200 plus a little, pounds! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Chris: Thanks and we are being careful! No wandering around after dark! All windows shut up tight! Nothing left outside that might bring him back! Some of our neighbors have had him in their yard too. We called Fish and Game, but they told us they do not transport animals during hunting season??????? Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Bear went a'hunting ... he did go ... uh huh~ Reckon the poor thing knew it was hunting season too ??? I'd head for the safety of your patio if I was a fuzzy-wuzzy~ You all be REAL CAREFUL ... they've been known to return ... and that door won't stop him either~ How's about a 12 gauge? ... Okay, so maybe not ... but I'd be ready ... just in case~ Hi My Ronnie~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost, |

Dear Marge; We are being very careful! A bear is nothing to fool around with. He seems to have moved down the valley, or maybe it's another one. There are many of them around right now, looking for something to eat! Thanks for reading! Ronnie says "hi" and sends love, as do I, Betty Lou |

Trillium This reminded me of the bear that found something tasty in our trash the other day. The trash cans are right behind window into my bedroom and the noise woke me up...when I looked I couldn't believe my eyes!! They do love that pet food too! |

Martie: Everyone seems to be having bear problems this fall. I talked to two neighbors today, who have had bears in their garages, because they left the doors open and they had pet food in there. they must really be hungry! Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

Dear Isobel: I would be afraid to open the door and try to tranquilze a bear! I'd rather take tranquilizers myself! Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

June: Nice to hear from you. We live in the country near a national forest, so we have many varieties of wildlife and some of it is BIG! We usually enjoy seeing it all, but when the bear came in on our patio, that was a bit too much! Love Betty Lou |
