Turnover

I feel a hint of fall today.
Summer will soon be on her way.
It's time for mild and shorter days,
Sometimes seen through a smoky haze.

The smoke's from forest fires afar
That will for long years leave a scar
On pristine beauty of this land;
Caused by small spark the wind has fanned.

There'll be no burn of leaves this year,
It has been dry and fires we fear.
Now with leaf burning out of style,
We'll put them on the compost pile.

We'll miss the bonfires and the fun;
But better be it safely done.
Next spring we'll spread the compost and
Bring beauty back to barren land.

Joyce~
I greatly enjoyed the gentle tone to your write~

I've been aware of the awful fires out your way ... hoping all will return even greener than before~

Thank you all.  As I speak the rains have begun.  The grass will turn back to green as I gaze.  I love fall.  Love, Joyce
