In the Window Seat

Up in the attic tucked away,
Are toys with which I used to play
And after me, my girl and son,
Found and treasured every one.

Now I wait for little feet
To come and find the window seat.
To lift the lid and look inside
To where the dolls and stuffed bears hide.
With shouts of glee, they'll take them out.
Grandchildren will enjoy, no doubt,
These relics from another day.
Although old-fashioned, they still may
Fire the imagination
Of this latest generation!

Then when they're through and pass them on,
Though I'm afraid I will be gone,
It gives me pleasure just to know
Each group of children loved them so!
,

Wonderful Betty.  I don't have toomany toys of my own childhood except my beloved doll.  It's in a glass case and they don't try to play with it, but she will outlast me.  Love, Joyce

Dear Joyce:

Strangely enough, I too have only one doll left and she is up on a shelf away from little fingers.  I only had 4 dolls during my young life and in later years, I gave three away.

Thanks for reading!

It's wonderful how love can be transferred onto beloved objects, and be passed down for years and years.. a wonderful piece!

junemac:  Thanks for your kind words. I suppose one of these days I'll have to surrender my one keepsake doll, to one of the great-grandchildren!

Dear Betty Lou

I've never lived in a house that had an attic but I would have loved one all the same.  My daughter Erin has a coloured doll, blue teddy bear and a book of 'Rupert the Bear' of mine that are 43 years old.

Your poem is wonderful!  Thank you for bringing us all down memory lane!

Love Isobel xo

Dear Isobel:  An attic is a wonderful place for children to play.  We don't have one anymore where we live now, but we enjoyed them in the houses that they were in.

Thanks for reading and enjoyed your nice comments.

Love
Betty Lou
