I draw my fingers across his timeless face, over worn, ivory and gold and beyond his stilled hands. I reach for dampened flannel, tenderly I begin, bathing him carefully with love; washing away the many years. Beneath the residue of sad neglect, shines a million memory jewels. With shaking hands, I open his chest, massage his silent heart. A steady rhythm begins once more, dormant hands are revived. My breath catches; anticipating, the music of his chimes. |

Beneath the residue of sad neglect, shines a million memory jewels. Been going through family photos given to me recently by my Mother and I had the same feelings as above when I last saw my Grandfather ( years ago) when he was 85 and in a nursing home from a stroke...he use to tell us the stories of coming to America on a boat when only 12. junemac: So good to see some of your work again!! I once had a beautiful grandfather clock, that was irretrievably broken during a move! I still miss it! Love Betty Lou |
