The Trees All Sing

The trees all sing their songs to me,
About their place in history.
Since seedlings on the forest floor,
Back a hundred years or more.

How much the world has changed since then.
They are surrounded now by men,
When used to be just creatures who
Lived in the woods, came wandering through.

Upon rough bark, my hand I place
And think I almost see a face
Etched deep within the texture there.
Can this tree understand I care?

Can it feel how I watch it through
Each season passing, as they do.
Enjoying every changing scene,
From snow and frost to summer's green.
How I enjoy them all year long
And listen for their secret song!

Dear Marge:  Thanks so much Marge.  I do feel there is something in a tree that responds to me! Hope that doesn't sound too eccentric!

Thanks Marge:  My tree climbing days are over, but I used to spend a lot of time up in them.  I taught my children how to climb too! I knew you had a rapport with trees!

Dear Betty,  I have been gone to a garden club convention.  I could hardly wait to open my computer when I got home and I found your lovely tribute to the trees.  Perfectly rendered as usual.  Love, Joyce

Dear Betty Lou,

If trees could talk, what wonders they could share with us. Since they are alive, I have no doubt they sing, if only we listen with our hearts.

I've always felt that trees (and other living things) talk and sing to us. I always thought I was weird, but I didn't care. Now I feel like part of something. I love this tribute to them. Like Marge says "you rock!!"

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance.

I agree that there is some kind of communication between all living things. Most people don't take the time to look and listen.  Glad to hear that you do.  It's a special experience! Thanks!

You know I sit in the forest in Lynn Canyon so often, and have for years and years.  I have started to notice the tall ladies are creaking and I wonder if they are feeling age as I am? There is one particular spot I sit and just look up and wonder about all the wonders these timbers have seen over the years, and I too, rub a hand across their wrinkled cheek.

I loved this!

Dear Mysteria:  I'm glad to hear you also enjoy trees in all their diverse beauty! I have creaking ones in our woods too and they do look like old ones. When the wind blows some of them rub against each other and adds to the chorus.

Dear Betty Lou

I was a tree climber as a child and found peace and solitude in them!

When you are one with nature you can 'hear' 'them' talk to you!

A beautiful poem!

Dear Isobel:

How wonderful to hear from you!  It's been a long time.  I too loved to climb trees when I was young and spent many hours hidden in their upper branches, just enjoying the environment there!
