happy birthday they all say
another year older but not much wiser
crying because i really am old today
the cards all prove it.

one says to the old wise one
another talks about candles
one says look in the mirror
another refers to roman sandles

half a century
not feeling a day over twenty
old grey mare syndrome
there's more a plenty

thanks i say
keep them cards comin'
of age and beauty
i won't be runnin'

this is the first year that my age has ever bothered me, it won't last long tho as there is great freedom in the years ahead.
freedom to have short term memory loss at will, freedom to be a pain in my kids behinds just because i can, and freedom to let the grandkids get away with "what do you mean you told me i couldn't let them do that" syndrome. my boys are already rolling their eyes and saying now mom you know you aren't that old.
