{No!!!! This is not a personal experience, but I heard statistics yesterday that said every fourth woman is battered to some extent. That seems very high but it inspired this piece.} Lost Years We started married life with love And eager expectations. The future ours to live with verve And taste of world's sensations. And then the secrecy began Along with sudden rages. Forgotten days together ran As time closed empty pages. Where is the sweetness of the past? Where gone my ardent lover? I huddle in the darkened room And shiver under cover. He's quiet now, I rise to bathe My swollen, tear drained eyes. He'll wake to say he's so sorry But I now know he lies. The happiness I thought was ours Perhaps was truly never. My love has turned to fear and pain That can't be borne forever. Swiftly, I pack an overnight To run from all the pain. This time for sure, I tell myself I'll not be back again. by Joyce 03/29/05 [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (03-30-2005 01:06 AM).] |

Joyce I must say that that I am glad that this is not a personal experience for you, and I can say from personal experience(not with tramp) that you captured this very well. The statistics are staggering, and many cases never known. Thank You for this write and pray that they don't go back Annie there is but a short time to exist, love, laugh, live and never stop believing in miracles |

Thanks Annie. I am sorry if you had this experience. In the news tonight, somewhere in Seattle a man beat his girlfriend to death. Leaving children without a mother. Joyce |

Dear Joyce: So appalling what some women go through at the hands of their mates. Children too. This is really well written. Love Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

yes unfortunately for the most part the abused have to die before it gets attention, most don't come forward because of fear, those that do are haunted, and the ones who do get away are to be applauded. I got away and (sorry tramp i said i would not refer to you) but my tramp was the one man who was there for me without abuse and taught me to love again. good things do come even if they are put on a shelf. that is sad I'm one of the ones that left and didn't look back I'm glad I did. Many women don't leave, or they think they can't. |

Joyce, I am so glad this never happened to you. I do believe the statistics and it is so unnecessary. This sounds just like my first marriage. It took me 10 "unnecessary" years but I finally found the fortitude to get out and not look back. That was the worst time of my life. My current husband of 20 years(God bless every little thing about him) has tried desperately to put all the pieces back in their proper place and most of the time I'm whole. Every once in awhile there's a seam that threatens to come apart and he's real good at sewing things back up. Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance. |

I guess it is true then. Your answers prove that the number of women who have been abused is very high. So sad for all concerned. love, Joyce |

yes the statistics are true...but remember there are those of us who do get away and like phaerie child said while it takes many years to mend, and at times seams try to unravel, we still got out. and cloud thank you for your comment on my comment....I can not tell you how many women I have begged to leave a situation before she ends up maimed if not dead, and I cannot tell you how many of them are to afraid to leave for fear of being hunted down. If I can reach but one Lord, then I will continue to beg. Annie there is but a short time to exist, love, laugh, live and never stop believing in miracles |

Being in an abused relationship is the worst kind of cage you can be in if you have given up your control to someone, and they also control all the money in the house. You wrote this well Joyce. Fear is the main thing holding these women back, and once they realize there really is freedom and help on the other side of that door, then and only then will they think enough of themselves to finally do some self-care and find out they they were really worth it. Sad statistics and very true. |
