An Interior Motive

There is a glaze upon the snow
That fell a few short days ago.
An icy crust that cracks like glass
Beneath the feet of all who pass.

I bundle when I go outside
With layered clothes, all meant to hide
Any skin that shouldn’t show
Because it is eighteen below!

Why did I ever like this stuff?
I guess I used to be quite tough.
I’d ski and sled and walk for miles.
Every snowfall produced smiles.

I finally grew in wisdom’s realm
And when Old Winter’s at the helm,
I stay inside beside the fire.
To venture out, I’ve no desire.

A forced march though, I have to make
For wood and papers and to take
Mail out to the waiting post.
Back to my house that’s warm as toast!

And like a cat upon her chair,
I relish every moment there
And only budge when really prone
To eat a bite or use the phone!

You have drawn the picture of the immobility of winter perfectly.  We had some really cold weather this past week but it is warming up and will turn to rain I guess.  I''m counting the days to spring. Love, Joyce

Dear Joyce:  Thanks for commenting.  I too can hardly wait for spring!!  It's all I can do to force myself to go out once a day to take care of whatever chores there are.

Love
Betty Lou

Dear Marge:

Be glad you can only "pretend" to feel the chill!  Fortunately our snow is about gone.........for the time being! Thanks!
