An Interior Motive There is a glaze upon the snow That fell a few short days ago. An icy crust that cracks like glass Beneath the feet of all who pass. I bundle when I go outside With layered clothes, all meant to hide Any skin that shouldn’t show Because it is eighteen below! Why did I ever like this stuff? I guess I used to be quite tough. I’d ski and sled and walk for miles. Every snowfall produced smiles. I finally grew in wisdom’s realm And when Old Winter’s at the helm, I stay inside beside the fire. To venture out, I’ve no desire. A forced march though, I have to make For wood and papers and to take Mail out to the waiting post. Back to my house that’s warm as toast! And like a cat upon her chair, I relish every moment there And only budge when really prone To eat a bite or use the phone! Betty Lou Hebert |
