A marine in Charlie Company, 8th Regiment, fighting in Fallujah, was on the front page of the Spokane, Spokesman Review yesterday. I wrote this poem to go with it, as a tribute to Veteran's Day and all the Armed Forces. FALLUJAH Mine eyes have seen the horror Of a war across the sea, Where I and many others, Came to fight for liberty! In the desert heat and sandstorms, Far away from family, How I pray we'll be delivered And Iraq will soon be free! In the bombs and death around us, There is just one shaft of light, That God takes pity on us And protects us with His Might! Melton: Thanks for commenting on this. When I saw that picture I had to write something!! I called the marine recruiting office in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where I live, and they said if I sent them a copy of the poem, they would forward it to the marines family, so of course I did. MyDearFriend~ As you know from my email this morning, I found out in my morning newspaper that the young man in the photo is Lance Corporal Blake Miller from Robinson Creek, Kentucky~ He is 20 years old ... a fine Christian young man and what joy his mother, Maxie Webber, had when she saw his face appear on her television set~ I have no doubt that she would love to read your poem honoring those in service to our country~ I hope she gets it !!! Your heart is soooooooooooooo big~ *Huglets* ~*Marge*~ ~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost, |

I think this is a case of a picture speaking a thousand words. While reading your poem, I could hardly keep myself from singing out loud the "Battle Hymn of the Republic." A very very patriotic tribute to our military men and women in Fallujah. God bless. -Bob |

Bob; This picture had the same effect on me. I could hear the music and the words came to me, slightly changed of course, but no less fervent! Thanks! Betty Lou Betty Lou Hebert |

If it weren't for what I believe to be much more than luck but just short of divine intervention, that I wasn't sent there myself... I don't know if I ever told anyone here, but in September of '03 I became a Marine.. x_x I've been extremely fortunate though, 'cause I have been stationed in a non-deployable unit (in which they can't send you anywhere) and will hopefully be stuck here until the end of my enlistment in 2008. I know people who have been there though, and thank God I didn't have to... Ay me, but where are my manners? I'm sorry I've been silent for so long, and such a very long time it is, I know! I hope to be far more active in the future than I have been over the past 5 years! You're all great people--and poets, naturally! God bless!! Draconic regards to each and every one of you, Little Spyro T. Dragon "Staying true to yourself and your ideals in spite of a world that says you shouldn't even EXIST... Argh, and I forget yet again! Your poem was such a powerful reminder to me of what is still happening on the other side of the world that I forgot to say how well of a job you did on it! Thank you, and please, never stop writing! Little Spyro T. Dragon "Staying true to yourself and your ideals in spite of a world that says you shouldn't even EXIST...
