She touched the match to a slim white candle face pale as the column of ivory wax she held Strands of hair, black as coal whipped her cheeks, wind howled and lashed at her flesh and clothes. Faltering white flame cast shadows across her brow emphasized the lines of worry etched on young skin Cupping the flame, tiny hands wrestled the wind's grip tightly held to cliff edge, descending to moonlit beach She knelt upon the shore with a candle in her hand, her vigil once again begun, settlling in til late dawn. This the tenth night since he failed to come home, this the tenth candle, will burn bright til morn. Her faith was such that she needed no prayers A thousand white candles waited under her stairs. |

Dear June, What a gifted poet you are! I enjoyed this one very, very much. I loved how her hope remained strong in spite of the waiting. I too, hope the candles last. Love, Patricia 'When you find a dream within your heart, don't ever let it go. |
