This Land of Mine

My home is here, where trees grow tall.
Occasionally, a waterfall.
Where from the woods, we often may
See deer and young, come out to play.
Where ravens make an inky blot
On branches and they call a lot,
With raspy voice, that seems to tell
Of prophecies, that once befell!

Where eagles haunt the lake to find
The fishy meals they have in mind.
Where rivers run and otters play
And flaming sunsets end the day.
Where moose in marshy places munch
On juicy,water plants for lunch.
It's here vast forests cloak the land
And mountains rise, remote and grand!

The dappled meadows show the hues
Of flowers, growing where they choose.
This is my land and when I die,
Please bury me where shadows lie
From trees that form a canopy,
For that is where I want to be,
So roots can wrap and hold me fast,
Deep, near the earth's great heart, at last!

I wonder how many people live in a heavenly place like you and have no idea of their good fortune.  It takes a poet to see the beauty.  Love, Joyce

Betty Lou,

Your poem is a visual buffet for imagination’s eyes.

I can certainly understand why one would desire to be buried where their spirit now unites with the presence of such natural beauty.

Enjoyed reading and God bless.
