Morning Visitor

I hear his call before I spy
The owner of that wild bird cry.
Protected from the guns of man,
He may live out his full life-span.
I watch God's aerial masterpiece
And pray his numbers may increase.
The symbol of Land of Liberty,
Freer than man can ever be.

He's sitting on the old fir spur,
Watching for anything astir.
All things that move from duck to mouse,
His hunting instincts will arouse.
This mighty bird of lofty flight
Is such an awe inspiring sight
As he soars high on thermal waves.
He's been revered by Indian Braves.

To sailors on the open sea
The sight of him portends safety.
Considered by some a bird of war,
By others, God's messenger and more.
This bird that flies o'er land and foam
Has deigned to stop at my small home.
He could live to his 160th year.
God loves him too, it would appear.

Though I would gladly have him stay,
The Bald Head Eagle soars away.

Dear Joyce:

This is a wonderful poem and tribute to the Bald Eagle.  I can appreciate your feelings at seeing him.  We have them around here, as we have a wetlands area in back of us and they come there to hunt.  It's always thrilling to watch them. I loved your poem.

Dear Joyce,
This is such a neat poem. How much I enjoy you guys and how you spell out nature.
Ok, I know a bird from a tree......
What kind of bird and what kind of tree? Heck if I know.
Love, Barb
