Am I a fool to stare in the night,
in search of an uncertain day,
that think love may grace thy sight,
and come carry thee away?

Do I play the comical jester,
in the very drama of life,
that I may not even in life prefer,
the company of a loving wife?

Nay! To the loving heart,
for it is certain trouble;
that it may tear life apart,
and leave it there in rubble!

Nay! What is life with love,
but the certain death of thee,
and the truth thy heart does speak of;
that for much heart and mind agree!

Oh! But whats more to me,
a life without one to share;
that truth, my life may disagree,
and I am unwilling to bare!

Oh! If it were true at best,
dye the daggers in blood red,
immerse them into thy breast,
for I am already dead!
