(AN: This again is dedicated to a special woman, one who has had my heart for over a year now. Though she loves another, she will forever hold a special place in my heart.)

St. Valentine's

A day I dread draws ever near.
It is then my lonely state becomes clear.
Unloved, uncared for, rejected.
I am he, who sits lonely dejected.

Understand falling for you wasn't in my plan.
I also understand that you have your own man.
And it isn't me, as much as I'd like it to be.
I only wish you to be loved and happy.

Even at the cost of my own angst and pain.
Starting in September in the driving rain.
Was then I found out you and he were together.
And my heart from the rest of me did sever.

I've nothing left but to tell you how I feel.
But I've no intention of making an appeal.
For you to date me, or even remain my friend.
I just may have to face a friendship's end.

As the zealots at the fort of Masada, last stand.
This be my own, against a burning emotional brand.
For I cannot hide what I feel for you any longer.
They say what don't kill you gets you stronger.

I've been in a world of suffering and pain.
Since that September night's driving rain.
I may have to face the friendship's end.
And my heart inside it will tear and rend.

Another Valentine's Day, adrift and alone.
The cold solitude hand felt to the bone.

I'm pretty sure she'll never find such dedicated love again.  She should take a look around.  Joyce

This beautifully written, and heart renching poem, seems to indicate to me that you deserve the very best...a love that is wondrously your own.! I will bet she is just around the corner! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

yet another amazing poem...... nad to think i know exactly how you feel.... alone on valentines day is always sad....
if only she would look around and realise how much you love and care for her she would be insane not to go running into your arms...

I'm glad you just want her to be happy, and loved.. I've read a number of poems for situations like yours, but some aim their hurt at the person they love.. I can't tell you 'it will go away', because I don't know if it will.. But I can tell you that having her as a friend is a gift to you.. Keep it.
I think your first stanza is the best one.

Bless your cotten sockies, you poetic maniacs. ^_^

Love - Lynne

Obviously these women have tunnel vision.  They do not know what they are missing.  It is their loss.
