This one I posted for Joyce - I wrote this a few years back.Hope you enjoy...

The Garbage Man Cometh

Sleeping so sound not a worry near.
Dreaming of marshmallows, I have no fear.

Flying through clouds on psychedelic wings,
Taking in the beauty of things.

In the distance I hear such a grinding!
Can’t make it out, and the source I’m not finding.

Reality hits me like a ball in the crotch…
Today’s garbage day and the can’s on the porch!

Still in my skivvies, I throw on a robe.
Will I get there in time?I can only hope.

The trashcan’s too full and won’t last ‘til next week.
I gather my bearings and move fast on my feet.

I trip over the dog in the living room.
As I curse, I hear snoring coming from my groom.

He hears not a thing of the garbage truck’s roar.
Oh, how I wish I could just lay there and snore!

I get to the door and I take a quick listen…
There’s still plenty of time and my eyes start to glisten.

Hair standing up in so many directions,
Must be quite a sight – hope I don’t see my reflection!

Out on the porch, I grab the trashcan,
Walk to the road and see the garbage man.

He waves a quick greeting, tries to hide a smirk.
He turns away going back to his work.

“I’ve made it!” I thought to myself as I turn
and walk to the glass door where I learn

the reason he smirked and turned away,
I am in such disarray!

My robe, wrongside-out, my slippers mismatched
I’m sure he and the guys will get a good laugh.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you all got a kick out of this.  Actually, yes this was one of my "most embarrassing moments" but it made me laugh afterwards and the little poem just fell into place.  As far as "crotch and porch", I agree but nothing else that rhymed perfectly gave me the same effect.  Sorry about that one!   (My mom still laughs at this one too.)
Thanks again for your replies and for making me feel so at home here.
Love to all,
Shereen.

Shereen, Delightfully funny! The best comedy is usually our fractured human frailty! Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
