Storm Foretold In my big easy chair I'm curled; Served by electronic world. The heavy snows forecast have come, But these strong walls protect me from The cold, as snowflakes mesmerize. I gaze through window, then at screen. Heaviest snows in years are seen Through both.I watch the hungry birds, Thankful I'd heeded warning words About this storm before my eyes. I filled my freezer, bought bird seed; Anticipating every need In case I should become snowbound When foretold snowstorm rolled around. My mind recalls the former years. The years when Daddy's brain and brawn Were what we had to rely on. No TV Weatherman to tell The depth of snow before it fell. With Dad on watch we had no fears. He seemed to know without TV How long the winter storm would be. Our pantry was pre-filled with food, The big box over-flowed with wood. No storm could catch him unprepared. He saw with his wise weather-eye If clouds would stay or roll on by. And when a blizzard he deemed due, He'd say "No school today, for you". Thus from the danger we were spared. I doubt the Weatherman can know As much as Daddy did of snow. By: Joyce 01/06/03 |

Enjoyed this Joyce. I remember the days without tv and a weatherman.. and it was my dad who foretold how much we would be getting.. to this day I don't know how he knew. Stay in and be warm. ~Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ In the midst of winter.. |

Joyce: I really enjoyed reading your poem and brought back similar memories for me. My dad too, always seemed to know what the weather was going to do, as did most of the men in the family. I guess they spent so much time out doors, they because readers of weather! Betty Lou Hebert |
