The Hoodoo Loop

One moonlit night, I joined a group,
To walk Bryce Canyon's Hoodoo Loop.
It is a valley very strange,
Where wind and weather rearrange
The lofty sandstone cliffs and breaks
Apart the walls, until it makes
Them into spires, rising high,
Like giants grouped against the sky.

They almost seem to have a face
And standing at the solid base,
I think sometimes that I can see
Some stony eyes stare back at me.
A slash of mouth, an ear or two.
A frowning brow takes in the view.
They're rather frightening, I find.
I do not want to lag behind
And find myself out there alone,
With all this silent, brooding stone.
I'll come back in the light of day
To see if I still feel this way!

Funny how shapes of things in the moonlight take on an eerie form. That's when I can run the fastest!
Enjoyed.

(big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I know how things can have a whole new appearance sometimes and how eerie that can be when you don't seem to recognize the place you are standing next to! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Betty, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Trillium,
I really enjoyed reading this one very much. I liked the meter and the descriptive words. It felt like I was really there! Thanks for posting this.

Noah:  You're so right.  Moonlight changes so many things that you are well acquainted with in the daytime and makes them look strange and eerie.

Thanks for the Christmas tree.  Makes me anxious to go and get ours!

Laicie:  Thanks for commenting.  You have some weird rock formations in your country too, I know. I suppose they all look eerie by moonlight.

Oh, Betty...

This is a great one!  I've been to the Hoodoo myself, and you're right...they're downright weird even in the daylight!  You're much braver than I to hike them in the moonlight!  Thanks for the fun adventure, though!

junemac:  Thanks for commenting and enjoying this poem.  You and I have something in common, other than poetry, as I too, see strange faces in shadows, trees, bushes, etc.  My family looks at me sometimes and shake their heads! Can't be helped!

Jane:  Glad to meet someone who has been to the Hoodoo in daylight.  I never have seen them then.  They are memorable I know. Thanks for reading.

I have been too busy to read, Betty, but I'm glad I found this.  Some stone walls and imagination can be very scary.  Love, Joyce
