Spring’s here, Mum, thought you’d like to know
The freesias and forget-me-nots are all on show,
The deep velvet fragrances fill my dreams
They darken & deaden all my screams.

The memories of when I was a child
Frangipani growing strong & wild,
Hide & seek in the big plum tree
The hammock Dad made just for me.

Eating lunch on our old, squeaky swing
Spaghetti in sauce was my favourite thing,
The sun beating down on my innocent heart
How quickly a life can be ripped apart.

Because then I awake to the coming storm
And know the dream was nice and warm,
My childhood, my mother, my love, my life
Is gone .

I know He’s kind, I know He’s just
He knows love doesn’t fall to dust,
Love survives and love remains
Reminds us of all our worldly pains.

It’s hard, but I try and understand
The lives that He has eternally planned,
Pain lives & breathes in my eternal soul
So I spit it out and it swallows me whole.

I’ve planted freesias & frangipanis
Tried to put up with peoples insanities,
And when the stress gets all too much
I breathe their fragrance and feel your touch.

I miss you Mum, I’ve told you before
But I’m not sure you hear through that stained glass door,
So I sleep & dream, till my mind is hoarse,
Of frangipanis, freesias and spaghetti in sauce,
Of hammocks in plum trees….of Mum on a swing
This is my very best favourite thing

Thanks, Marti,
Where I am in Australia, the closest I get to snow is defrosting my long ignored freezer!! I suppose the grass is always greener, hey?
Merry Christmas to you and yours,

hehehe..I know what you mean about favorite things, and about the freezer being the closest you get to snow...good one...thanks for the giggle about the freezer, and this wonderful write about mothers, and dads touch. I don't know alot about that, but I can see how uplifting it would be.
Love,
Terri~

passing shadows, SharaRose & Trillium,
Thanks guys, I was a bit nervous posting here, being my first time, but you've made it a lot easier than I thought!  Happy Hols to you all, and it's boiling hot here in Oz at the moment! (Think I'll stick my head in said freezer!!)

I was so affected by this. Of course your mother hears you. I think this is my best read for a while. Maggie

Maggie, inot2B and Enchantress,
Thanks so much for your comments. I didn't think this would get as many comments as it has!
Maggie, I know my mum hears me, but sometimes it gets hard not having her wisdom and experience around. I guess we all go through that sometimes though, don't we?
Thanks again, guys!

Thanks pictureme,
I tried making it bittersweet, so I suppose it worked!

Noah & Deb,
Thankyou so much for your beautiful messages!I love the pictures, Noah. They're wonderful.
I know Mum will be with me this Christmas, but it's good to hear it from someone else, too. I hope you both have a very happy Christmas, and all the days following.

Jaicie,
I'm thinking of changing my name to Laicie114,whaddya think? lol.
Hey, thanks for looking at my poem. I know it's not as good as all the comments I'm getting here. I have a lot to work on, and I'm thinking of putting it in the Critical Forums to find out for myself! Who knows..maybe I'll hone it some! ?

Yu Lan,
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments! I wanted to show AND feel in this poem. I hope I've done that. My childhood was the best thing that's ever happened to me. I'm thankful for that, so I wanted to show people how much it meant to me. It's hard with a personal poem to show and not just 'tell', but I'm trying to get past the personal (in a way) and get into the 'interpersonal'.if you know what I mean! Thanks again!
Cheers, Laicie

Hey, Laicie!

I certainly think that the "114" could possibly add a bit of intrigue to your userid...but, then...I just may be a tad biased!     And...it could really work for you if your birthday is Jan 14th like mine!!! LOL

About your comments regarding your poetry...always, always, always be proud of your work. Sure...post something in the critical area if you want to polish it...but, writing should always be from the heart and is a gift we give ourselves...and, occasionally share with a few hundred (thousand?) friends if we choose to post! But, never apologize for your work or think it's not as good as someone else's. The fact that it comes from your heart makes it perfect...just the way it is.

Okay...that's just my opinion...but, I sorta like thinking that way!!!

Love and Light...jc

jaicie,
Thanks for your encouragement.I honestly didn't think it would get so many replies! I've seen so many excellent poems at this site, it's overwhelming!
If I changed my name to my birth date it would read Laicie1023. Sounds like something from a cop radio!!lol

Alicat,
Thanks so much for your wonderful words! They were very meaningful. I think I'm going to like it here!
