Free Kittens We had a cat and goodness knows, Her kittens paws had seven toes. We couldn't believe the size of feet On kittens otherwise petite. But they were wild and hissed in fright Whenever someone came in sight. Everytime I'd go downstairs, Like entering the lions lairs, I'd plan on watching screaming cats, Flying just like little bats, From tops of cupboards and I'd see They couldn't stand the sight of me! What to do! They couldn't stay Down in the basement, we'd all say. Then finally at six weeks old, We decided that we'd be bold. We'd descend and not come back Till all those cats were in a sack. I can't begin to here describe The battle with that feral tribe. I only know the hours flew Before we caught that awful crew. Now, where to take them? To the phone. One pet store had a friendly tone. They would be glad to have them come Even though I told them some Of the wild history they had. In fact they said, that they'd be glad To have some kittens then as they Had no more cats to give away. I carried them out to the car. The pet store wasn't very far. But all the way, they cried and spat. I wished I'd brought the mother cat As maybe she'd have calmed them down, As I drove onward through the town. When I arrived, I went within. The owner said he had a bin Just deep enough to hold them all, That stood against an outside wall. I hauled them in and said again That they were wild, but with a grin, He grabbed the sack and turned them out. The cats went ricochet about And all the people in the store Chased them till they found the door. The last I saw while in retreat, Were soles of many flying feet. That store may never be the same. Yes I laughed at this too, but I know your problem. I've had to do the same thing, try to tame wild cats. We found one when she was the surviving one out of the litter. The mother had abandoned them before feeding them at all. Maybe poor thing, she died. Any way we raised this little darling on the bottle, but she never did truly tame up although she is the beloved pet of my granddaughter. Joyce |

HaHaHa... this was fun to read. I can hardly imagine the mess my basement would be in after this. Yikes! |

Joyce: Sometimes, no matter how much effort you put into taming a cat, there is just too much of the wild. Since we live in the country, cats and dogs are often dropped off out here. I guess people think they don't need any care to survive. Sad thing. Betty Lou Hebert |

This was a delightful read, Betty Lou! Isn't it funny how some of our most stressful times can be laughed at after some time passes? Cute poem! |

Good idea for a Jim Carrie film. The screen play would be hilarious... as good at 101 dalmations. Your words paint the picture well and made it most enjoyable. |
