Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2003-10-24 04:11 PM

She rests,
written upon the wings of another day ..
Too many thoughts pulsing through her mind,
reeling from undeniable beauty and
this taming of the sky.

Unaware,
papers scattered around her.
What silk-laced presence feeds her
                              pensiveness?

Unaware,
repeats the distant drumming of rain
singing steadily into her
              soul,
like a morbidly fragile sunrise.

Strange, how strange
heaven's scent
    lingers,
and oh lord, how she dreams!

In between olive fingers, she holds
twilight in a bottle,
breathing its parched aroma.

She once sat on the garden wall,
trailing indignities of a thousand words
    but silenced
when he found her.

In between fingers she would thread
sweet blackberry vines,
    his own skin lighter
than the blackberry staining her lips

"In these are the taste of my ink,
stretched across your arms.
I am sorry,
still I can't help but paint you blacker
than my midnight sighs."

He knows,
after tasting her.
Somehow artistically unaware
black on black
makes her white again.

such sweet things
but oh, too young!

Love
the emotion meant to shatter naivete
in so many ways.

a whisper once fell across November air.

"I want it"

He knows.
"And so we'll make our own."

For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.--"Romeo and Juliet"
