I searched my garden carefully, For just the perfect rose. I knew just what was needed For top prize in the shows. The flowers I rejected, Hung down their heads in shame. I didn't look back to comfort them And say they were not to blame. Some had been blooming since early spring And had filled my yard with perfume, ButI turned my back upon them For their slightly fading bloom. As we go throught the garden of life, do we Apply these stringent rules? We turn from the simple stones and say We are only seeking jewels. Sometimes to the plainer folks we meet, We do not give a chance To prove their worth and their beauty. We've made our minds up in advance. We are surely the losers For our judgment call so crude. There could be less obvious winners We'd do well to include. It's not always the fairest flower, That lasts 'till the show is done. Sometimes its the modest blossom That has fought through the weeds and won. Joyce 1999 |

Joyce: This is so good! The comparison between leaving flowers behind and people is striking. Betty Lou Hebert |

Yes indeed! We certainly need to adjust our vision from time to time in order to see where the real value lies! Great expression, Joyce! |

A truth very well put--sad, but true, purity of sririt is so hard to maintain, and such a virtue-- thanks for the reminder! |

Joyce~ Such a blossoming lesson for us~ 'It's not always the fairest flower, That lasts 'till the show is done. Sometimes its the modest blossom That has fought through the weeds and won.' Thank you for sharing~ ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

It's not always the fairest flower, That lasts 'till the show is done. Sometimes its the modest blossom That has fought through the weeds and won. I couldn't agree more Joyce. A wonderful write of Truth! Maree |
