-Each New Day- Caffeine and nicotine and little pink pills Are all that get me through these days. I wake up with my head resting upon These tear stained pillows and my body Wrapped up in cold, lonely sheets. I step from my bed, a hollow, vacant Stare in my deep brown eyes as I Silently begin another faithless day. After six beers, lying to myself becomes Easier. Maybe if I tell my heart it does not ache And that the hole she left inside of me Will heal with time, I may come to believe. Each new beer and cigarette leaves A bitter taste in my mouth, like a lie from a forked tongued devil that decieves and tears apart my tender soul for fun. Within my melancholy stupor, I come To the realization that life is not a race I have to win. And when I come to depend Upon someone else for my own happiness, They Have all the power in the world to break me. So I will slow down, and enjoy the small Moments of love and joy in each new day. And count the scars on my heart among my blessings. "Ain't Got no quarrels with God, ain't got no time to grow old. Lord knows I'm weak, won't somebody get me off of this reef" |

I know what I'm about to say is much easier said than done, and I have to echo it to myself so it's not advice I wouldn't need to follow myself, but I learned something and have always tried to teach it to my sons. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. If all hinges on one thing you will be disappointed is what I would tell them. I tell that to myself, too. It's hard not to love. We are created to do that, but we are humans, and humans make mistakes...we will disappoint so that's why we have to learn to love God as our first priority, because HE won't disappoint. I think in turn THEN He will give us that ONE person that will not hurt us and disappoint, because HE only gives what's GOOD for us. He says "seek first the kingdom of Heaven and all these things will be added unto you".. so that's where I got this thought, or idea from. Kind of made sense to me, but who knows. Just a thought is all. Loved this write. Very nice reading. Sorry if this came across preachy it's just that I see things on such a PRACTICAL plane of thinking. I've encountered more than a few in the world who like nothing more than to control or "break" people. This phrase you wrote above, it came from the gut, and it proves that you are a fighter. I have faith in you. |
