Splendor of the Night When the evening light is fading And the eastern mountains show The faintest yellow outline From a full moon's golden glow, Then the world seems hushed and waiting For the vision to appear. The beams that flood the country And the higher atmosphere. As the radiance is spreading, How the beauty of the scene Entrances me to straying By the water's silver sheen, Where I sit and watch in wonder At the things I've never seen. Like moonlight on the wingspan Of an owl in silent flight And the deer that come for browsing, In the splendor of the night. The raccoons in the shallows, Where the hunting must be good And the shyer night-time creatures As they creep out from the wood. I'm glad I live in country Where these animals live on. There are places where the moonlight Only shows that they are gone! Betty Lou Hebert Published in Rhyme Time Magazine 1999 [This message has been edited by Trillium (edited 07-17-2001).] |

Wow I am in the downstairs den on the computer with a view of blue burlap on the back of our yards swing, but for a moment I was in your country too. Jeen |

Joyce: We really are blessed to live where we do. There are two creeks that run across our property and at the confluence is a small wetlands area. We often see moose wading through and we have such a wonderful selection of wildlife around us. The other night there was a moose with two calves just up the road from where we live. We see bear once in awhile but find their tracks along the creeks. We're only 15 miles from town, but it's a sparsely settled area. Betty Lou Hebert |

Jeen: I'm so glad my poem opened up a vision of country life at it's best. At least for me, coexisting with nature is a real source of pleasure. Thanks for your comments. Betty Lou Hebert |

Yep loved it, filled me with many visions I dont get to see too often. You don't have a choice to die but you do have a choice how you meet it. |
