Time goes by so slowly,
When you wait in vain for a heart
To change.  Every time I think
Your memory is gone, something else
Proves me wrong.

Banal, mundane things, like
A Billy song playing in the bar,
Or every girl I see that isn’t you.
Why did my best laid plans go
Astray?  Why couldn’t you just stay?

I have heard you are happy now
With him.  It’s hard for me to say,
But I’m glad you smile again,
Even if it cost my own to give that
Back to you.

The funny thing is, I don’t
Want you back in my life.  That part
Of me died when we both
Walked away and left our broken
Hearts on the floor.

No, what I want now is just
For your memory to fade away,
And leave me in peace again.
All the what-ifs that circle around my
Head drive away my sanity.

So for now, I will sit
With my heart on the sleeve
Of the arm I drink with,
And drown you away each night
You’re still with me.
