Meet me you said as usual at eight I will always be there by the little church gate That night though was different after what happened to us So why was i nervous and making a fuss I felt so alone as i combed out my hair Spraying on perfume you loved me to wear In my heart i knew i was inceasing the pain You wouldnt be there and this was all in vain But all reason had fled i had nothing to lose So i reached for my coat stepped into my shoes I walked through the darkness to meet you at eight I was lost in my sorrow but i couldnt be late I saw and heard nothing but your voice and your smile Only hope kept me going as i walked that mile At the little church gate i waited for you Cold and lonely rain soaking me through As i waited that night i could see this was wrong I was fooling myself in my bid to be strong So at last i accepted my heart it had lied You couldnt be there For last night you had died Finally i cried thats when i shattered I had lost from my life all that had mattered As my weeping subsided the church bells spoke eight I heard the creak of the little church gate But before i looked up your arms held me near You crushed me against you and melted my fear The warmth of your lips will forever remain The last kiss of love that quitened my pain. |
