My mama's driving horse was Dapper Dan. His shiny coat, a lovely chestnut brown. He strode along with handsome head held high When she so grandly drove him into town. Dan with his pretty coat and Mama with Long and abundant, lustrous, auburn hair Turned many heads as they came into view. They were a matched and very comely pair. The two of them gave off a special glow, My mama and her jaunty driving horse. We chidren were so proud of both of them. Not half so proud as Daddy was, of course. He always met her at the farmyard fence And opened wide the long enclosing gate. Happily, he'd say, "Your supper's ready. The children have been fed, they couldn't wait." Our dear daddy loved to the cooking When Mama had gone shopping in the town. He would make some chicken with fat dumplings Or maybe his potpie of great renown. And then our daddy bought a nice new Ford. Our mama drove it when she went to town. But I must say she didn't look so fine As driving Dapper Dan, the chestnut brown. By Joyce 6/28/2001 |

Joyce: I commented on this on another site, but it certainly bears a repeat. Charming poem and I enjoyed it very much. Betty Lou Hebert |

What wonderful, warm, and cherished recollection you share with us in this beautifully nostalgic poem. I love the feel of it--It is as a work of art, which should proudly be displayed to all. Thank You, David Every Day's a Blessing |
