Deep in a cave beside the sea, I found a piece of history. Almost as old as time itself, Upon a wide and rocky shelf, A fossil of a fish who knew This ocean when the earth was new. I wonder how it came to be Quite hidden here so secretly And if some other eyes than mine Have gazed upon this ancient sign Of sea life from an age so far Removed in time, from where we are? I'd like to take it but I fear It really needs to stay right here. Washed twice a day with tidal foam, Commemorated in my poem! Betty Lou Hebert |

Oh, did you really find this? Nice poem in any case. Joyce [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (edited 06-30-2001).] |

Joyce: No, I didn't find this, but we did find fossilized clam shells in several places and in the back of a small cave, and that gave me the idea. We saw fossilized fish and other creatures at the Newport Aquarium which is wonderful! Betty Lou Hebert |
