The Last Stronghold Last night, the wind blew warm and strong. Today, the creek has changed its song, Reflecting all the melted snow That's rushing to increase the flow. Up in the hills, the ice defends It's winter home and still pretends That depth and cold tenacity, Can yet defeat what is to be. But gradually, the trickles start Of tears shed from its glacial heart And soon a torrent finds a place To join the creek in its mad race. I watch it as it gushes past And see its passage as the last Stronghold to fall, before the spring Brings warmth and joy to everything!
