Storm Song With my pack upon my back, I started off along a track, Well defined by feet of yore, That had traveled here before. There was a lake, ten miles away, Where I'd decided I would stay And spend an idle day or two, With very little else to do But fish and dream and watch the sky For clouds that might go drifting by. Half way there, the light grew pale. The wind came up and soon a gale Blew dust and twigs and plant debris In gusts of cold air, over me. The sky became so meanacing, I looked around for anything That might protect me from the hail Which now began.I left the trail And huddled underneath a tree, To keep most of it off of me. The storm grew worse and it was dark. I pressed against abrasive bark And felt a tremor in the ground From wind that tossed the trees around. The roar was deafening and I Could see big piles of hail nearby And then the rain in torrents, strong, Now added it's voice to the song, Of nature's rampage and I knew That I was weak and helpless too! How long it lasted, I can't say. It took a big chunk from the day And I decided I'd go home. No longer felt the need to roam. A fire and a cup of tea Were waiting there and beckoned me! This is very well written as usual Betty. I have been gone over night and I was glad to find a poem of yours when I came home. Joyce [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (03-12-2003 08:54 PM).] |

And just like now I'm in front of the heater and sipping my drink, you showed the best part.. coming home. And hey its kind of like life's journey and ..if we walk that way.. our trip Home ![]() Enjoyed. Always, Alyssa - And so it was that time stood still - |
