Splendors of September There should have been a day when I Could say I watched September die. A day to say farewell to all The splendors of this month in fall. A time of sunny, golden noons And migratory, avian tunes. Crispness in the morning hours. Passing of the summer flowers. The leaves that crunch beneath your feet And pile up on the garden seat! Pale skies, where smoke fades out the blue And scents the air with deja vu. I should have been aware that soon, The rising of October's moon, Would steal away the splendid sights Of perfect days and brilliant nights. Now it's too late, September's gone And time is quickly moving on! Betty Lou Hebert |
