That sweet addiction that is you
is calling to me again tonight
sometimes it beckens softly
in a dream just before the dawn
a soothing balm for the weary soul
an elixer for the troubled mind

Sometimes it shouts with an urgency
mingling with the day’s oppression
tugging me with ghostly fingers
away from the madness and the pain
the chaos that abounds in profusion
into a fantasy of matchless passion

Entwining me with arms of velvet
caressing my skin with fingers of fire
engulfing my lips with wet delight
it swallows my pain and erases my doubt
that compassion and love are forever lost
in an endless sea of hate and opression

Come to me now my lovely addiction
my need is great and I long for peace
the peace of your smile and your touch
the joy of your charm and exquisite grace
that I may reside in the cradle of your love
safe from a hellish world gone mad

Peg; A beautifully written poem...as usual! I have learned (the hard way) that I needed to find the peace within myself first in order to love another unconditionally..It was a tough road, but worth it..I have to thank you for all the incredibly wonderful replies to my poems dear sir..... Ellie
