Drive In Movies When I was a child, the highlight of our week was a trip to a drive-in movie. My sisters and I would jump into the back seat of daddy's 57 Chevy, pillows piled high. There was always a friendly lady or man at the entrance to collect the money. A dollar a car load was the deal of the day. Dad would drive from hill to hill searching for a speaker that wouldn’t pop and crack. Of course they all did. When at last he’d park, my sisters and I would make a mad dash for the playground, darting from swing to see-saw, playing hard as we could. When the movie finally began we settled in with pop-corn, cold drinks giggling out of control, until daddy threatened to put us out. I think the play ground was the best part of all. I enjoyed your memory here.Brought some of my own back to me,like the time I was 5 when my sister and cousin had me lay on the floor of the back seat with a blanket over me,thinking that I was not old enough to see "On a Clear Day...",in Freehold,N.J.! (A Streisand musical!?I don't know what they were thinking). Don't know why they died out.I think they were such a cool idea, such a great way to spend a Summer evening. Anyway, good writing.Enjoyed your warm memory. Geoffrey If a man has not discovered something he is willing to die for,his life is not worth living. |

This slice of Americana is well remembered by an old dog... the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |
