Castelo District Hunger and the steep hills trumped fear of the runs and so, stepping through the door of a crowded tiny mercado de fruta I waited, fingering two bright hard nectarines Euro in hand and searching my best Portuguese for “bom dia” and “obrigado.” The sticky juices and nowhere to wipe my hands. I like this a lot. I don't know whether you were in another country or in a section of your own town but this is nice. Joyce [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (10-29-2002 07:14 PM).] |

nicely done. The European flavor oozes through... the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

thank you so much my friends. the location was lisbon, portugal, and it was indeed hot that day. the nectarines were amazingly good, but i was worried about eating them, since i had been told to avoid the water, salads and unwashed fruit. happily, there were no problems in that regard!
