Behold! For a Giant yet walks the earth With shoulders of rock, striding forth he wields Thirty-two ounce, thirty-four inch of girth Maple Excalibur, from which he deals Four hundred foot jacks, right side of the plate Six hundred home runs, five hundred base steals Never swings early, nor ever swings late Inside the box hit, outside the box wait He cares not for me, and cares not for you Cares not a whit for the bat when he’s through And straightening up, and seeing the view Watches the ball fly until it’s a dot And then, only then, begins he his trot Don’t say to him “bring it” – it will be brought "Oh, do not ask, 'What is it?' Let us go and make our visit." -Eliot [This message has been edited by A. L. Becker (10-21-2002 07:30 PM).] |

Dear Marge, Thank you for your nice comments. I too am rooting for the 'Gels. Being an old Dodger fan, there's no way i can root for the hated ones, even though I live in SF. But, I was inspired to write this sonnet because I can't help feeling that I am witnessing sports history everytime I see Bonds step up to the plate. "Oh, do not ask, 'What is it?' |

Beautifully written! Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

this is an excellent piece...Bonds seems to get better with age. I saw Williams in his prime. They are cut from the same cloth. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |
